Bali remains the icon of Indonesian tourism. Amidst the effort of the government to meet the target of attracting 7 million foreign tourists to Indonesia, Bali has won “The Best Leisure Destination in Asia Pacific” award from the Business Travelers Asia Pacific magazine based in Hong Kong, a tourism official said. The award would be presented to the Bali provincial government at Conrad Hotel in Hong Kong on September 10, Head of the Bali Provincial Tourism Office Ida Bagus Subhiksu said here on Monday.
Earlier, Travel and Leisure magazine, a leading New York based tourism magazine recently awarded this Island of Gods with the title “The World Best Island in Asia 2010″. The World’s Best Award 2010 Ceremony was conducted in New York, Wednesday afternoon (21/7). The Four Seasons Hotels & Resorts Hotel in Jimbaran Bali was also awarded as the “World Best Hotel Spas in Asia 2010″.
Awards in various categories were also rewarded to about 100 awardees from all over the world. The Consul for Education and Socio Cultural Affairs who was present on behalf of the Indonesian Consulate General in New York received the award granted for Bali as “Best Island in Asia 2010″, which was handed over personally by Nancy Novogrod and Mr. Jean Paul Kyrillos, the Editor in Chief and the Publisher of Travel+Leisure Magazine.
The decision to appoint awardees this year was made through a survey conducted between 15 December 2009 and 31 March 2010 which gathered information based on the holiday experience of the readers of the magazine. Bali was said to have met the criteria as the best island because its natural beauty was spread out all over the island, both on its mountainous as well as coastal areas. Besides, it was also considered to have various tourism attractions, complemented with international as well as local restaurants, distributed all over the island. The people were also considered to be friendly and warm.
Awards given away on this event were for various categories. Besides the “best island” and “best spa hotel” categories, other categories included those for “best city”, “best hotel”, “best spa destination”, “best golf resort”, “best cruise lines”, “best airlines”, “best car rental”. Some of those categories are further divided into regions, such as US and Canada, Europe, Asia, Australia/New Zealand/South Pacific, the Caribbean, and Central/South America.
